With dogs the first question is not age but adult size. A puppy that will pass 25 kg must grow slowly: large-breed junior formulas are moderate in calcium and energy so the skeleton does not outrun the joints.
Small breeds have a fast metabolism and a tiny stomach, so they need dense food in a small kibble. A 4 kg dog refusing its food often simply cannot pick it up.
A dog walked twice for twenty minutes is not an active dog. Energy formulas are made for working dogs; given to a flat-dwelling dog they cause weight gain.
