Three questions rule out most of the aisle: how old is your cat, is it neutered, and has it ever had a urinary or digestive problem? Breed and price per kilo come after that.
A neutered cat burns roughly 30 % less energy than before the operation. If it keeps eating the same food it puts on weight within months: the neutered formulas are simply less calorie-dense and more filling.
Neutered males form urinary stones more often than average. If yours has had one, stay on a urinary formula even once the episode has passed, because relapse is common on a return to standard food.
Between 45 and 60 g a day for a neutered 4 kg cat with little activity, split into two meals.
